Roaring Stag Season at Toosikannu

For a few short weeks, autumn belongs to the stags.

Step into the Deer Kingdom and experience a side of nature that cannot be staged, repeated or fully described. It must be heard—and felt—for yourself.

When the Forest Roars

Once a year, for just a few weeks, the quiet forests of Toosikannu awaken with a sound that seems to rise from the earth itself.

Deep roars travel across the misty meadows and through the trees as powerful red deer stags gather their herds, challenge their rivals and announce their presence to the forest.

This is the Roaring Stag Season—one of the most extraordinary natural spectacles in Estonia.

Toosikannu covers 928 hectares, 800 of which belong to the wildlife park. This vast and biodiverse landscape is home to nearly 500 wild red deer, as well as roe deer, mouflons and many other woodland animals and birds.

A Wild Encounter Like No Other

From mid-September to mid-October, red deer enter their annual rutting season. Usually calm and elusive, the stags become commanding kings of the forest, their calls echoing through the landscape from dusk until dawn.

Toosikannu Nature Park is home to nearly 500 red deer roaming across 800 hectares of forests and open meadows. Here, you do not observe the season from a distance—you step into its very heart.

The cool autumn air. Mist resting over the fields. The first roar breaking the silence.

It is a moment you do not simply witness. You feel it.

In the Heart of the Deer Kingdom

The Roaring Stag Season follows nature’s own rhythm. Every morning, every evening and every encounter is different.

The most powerful moments often unfold around sunrise and sunset, when the forest is at its most alive. Stags emerge from the shadows, herds move quietly across the meadows and the calls of competing males carry through the still air.

Move slowly, listen closely and allow the forest to reveal itself.

This is luxury in its most elemental form—not having more, but feeling more.

Experience the Roaring Stag Season

The forest is most powerful when the day begins and when the light starts to fade. Stay overnight and experience both.

Wake to the sound of nature, set out on an early safari and return in the evening for seasonal flavours, the warmth of the sauna and the quiet comfort of your room or private forest house.

There is no need to rush. At Toosikannu, the forest slows you down before you even notice it.

This is a place for those who love to explore, move and spend time surrounded by nature. Walk quietly, keep your eyes and ears open, and let the wild surprise you.

Come for the roar. Stay for everything that happens in between.
