Who we are and
what we do here
Toosikannu Nature Resort: a hidden gem where the beauty of the wild blends with high-quality service.
The story behind Toosikannu Nature Resort
Resort
Toosikannu Holiday Centre was born in May 2005, when a holiday house was built on the walls of what remained of the Toosikõnnu dairy farm barn of the former Käru Manor. The first guests arrived in 2007. This building is now the main building of the holiday centre. The Fireplace Lounge and the Hunting Hall are located on the first floor. In the early years of the first Republic of Estonia, there were 3 wealthier farms in Käru, one of which was called Toosikannu. The farm had a total of 212 hectares of land, and the owner rented out two plots, as that was a lot of land at the time. This prosperous farm also had a threshing machine and a car – a Ford Eifel. You can still visit some of the old farmsteads. There are two others in use in addition to Toosikannu: Karupahna, which can accommodate up to 12 guests, and Ale-Sepa, which can accommodate 40 people and includes a seminar room and a banquet room. The old farmsteads are marked by bus stops.
Nature Resort
Our wildlife reserve was established in 2013 as the largest privately owned wildlife reserve in Estonia and is located on the border of Järva and Rapla counties spanning across the territories of 12 former farms. The reserve surrounds the Toosikannu Holiday Centre, which has a total area of 800 hectares and is surrounded by a 14-kilometre fence. The reserve is now home to hundreds of red deer. A second fence surrounds the holiday centre. The total area of Toosikannu is 928 hectares. Half of the red deer brought from a Latvian farm were stags and the other half hinds, some of them also pregnant. The pedigree of the deer, i.e. their origin, was also an important factor in the purchase. According to the Latvians, these red deer have distant roots in the deer farm of the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. If you come across a deer with an orange ear tag, that means you just saw one of the original deer.

Sustainability and nature conservation

- informs its employees about the company’s sustainability goals so that they are implemented in a consistent and coherent manner throughout the company;
- informs clients about key sustainability activities to facilitate environmentally conscious choices;
- pays attention to the supply chain and gives preference to local produce where possible;
- optimises resource use (e.g. reducing electricity and water consumption, maximising the use of raw materials and using recyclable/reusable packaging);
- is socially responsible and offers fair and equal conditions to its staff;
- organises events based on the green event guidelines;
- enables guests to implement sustainable habits (e.g. waste sorting, reducing consumption, plant-based menu choices);
- complies with global sustainable development goals; does its best to increase the number of sustainable activities over time.
We care about the environment, which is why we use deposit tableware and, in most cases, our beautiful serving dishes, which surely makes our dishes taste even better.
We have fully substituted disposable dishes with reusable dishes.
In March 2024 we switched to soot-free 100% natural powder candles which generate less residue. We are in the process of applying for the GreenKey label.
